SECTION 03 · THE TECHNOLOGY

A rule-based adaptive engine.

Zero AI in the core learning loop. Deterministic rules and lightweight JSON structures keep it fast and near-free to run.

How a single answer is processed

  • Compare the submitted answer against the stored correct value.
  • Update XP, mastery, streak, and skill attempts.
  • Log mistakes so the engine can re-surface them.
  • Select the next question with a weighted formula: score = (reading·w₁ + visual·w₂ + memory·w₃ + sequential·w₄) × skill-urgency

Why no AI in the loop?

AI inference per question adds cost and latency that a school-age platform doesn't need. Deterministic rules are instant, fully transparent, and free to run. AI is reserved for optional, high-value features later — like teacher class summaries or admin question generation — completely outside the live student practice loop.

Personalisation in action: If you struggle with high reading-load questions but excel at visual-load questions, the engine automatically adjusts the weights to serve more visual questions while gently scaling your reading load.
