Careers

We hire few. We train hard.

The Institute does not take on "anyone who can teach". We accept a small number of experienced, qualified specialists each year — and every one of them goes through our training programme before they meet a live class.

The Bar

Who we accept

🎓 Qualifications required

  • A degree in the subject you teach (or a closely related discipline)
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS, PGCE, or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification)
  • A clean enhanced DBS check (dated within the last 3 years, or willing to obtain one immediately)
  • Right to work in the UK

📅 Experience we look for

  • Minimum 5 years of classroom teaching experience in your subject
  • 10+ years preferred — most of our specialists are in this bracket
  • ✓ A track record of real, measurable student outcomes — not just testimonials
  • ✓ Experience teaching your subject at the examination level you would teach with us (GCSE, IGCSE or A-Level examination boards)

🛡️ The character we look for

Qualifications get you read. Character gets you hired. We accept teachers who are rigorous but warm, who genuinely know their subject cold, who take feedback without ego, and who believe every student can improve with the right approach. Our classes are capped at 10 because relationships drive learning — if you prefer lecturing from a distance, we are not the right school.

Selection & Training

The process is deliberately hard

1 · Application review

Every application is read personally by the academic team. Most do not proceed past this stage — that is intentional.

2 · Subject mastery assessment

A demanding assessment in your subject, at the level you would teach. You cannot bluff it, and you cannot prepare overnight.

3 · Observed demonstration lesson

A live, taught lesson observed by the Institute team — not a presentation about teaching, actual teaching.

4 · The Institute Training Programme

Before any live class: training in the Institute's learning-science approach, our adaptive systems (Synapse), safeguarding standards, and our small-class teaching model.

From application to first live class typically takes 4–6 weeks. We would rather leave a position unfilled than fill it with the wrong specialist.

The Other Door

Not there yet? Get there with us

If you do not yet hold the qualifications or years of experience above — but you have genuine subject ability and the right character — the Institute runs an in-house training programme that can qualify you. You will train under our senior specialists, study the Institute's learning-science curriculum, and be assessed against the same bar. Those who pass graduate into our teaching team.

What We Offer

📚 The environment

Classes capped at 10 (8 at A-Level) where you actually know each student. A structured curriculum you don't have to build from scratch. Every lesson recorded, structured practice through Synapse, and a teaching environment designed around how learning works — not against it.

🎯 The standard

You will work alongside specialists who meet the same bar you did. Small team, high standards, continuous development in the science of learning — and the satisfaction of teaching students whose progress you can actually see.
