Neurogenetics Institute

Understand How
Your Brain Learns

For 15 years, since 2011, the Neurogenetics Institute has studied how learning works — and applied that understanding in private schools and colleges in London, UK.

The work began in 2011 and has developed through years of study and practical educational experience in private schools and colleges in London, UK. Today, that work is being developed across research, assessment, learning technology, practical programmes and education.

The Institute

A specialist institute for the science of learning

The Neurogenetics Institute brings together neuroscience, psychology and learning science to understand how people learn — from memory and attention to executive function and neural adaptability.

We don't study these subjects simply for the sake of research. We use what we learn to build practical ways for people to understand and improve how they learn — assessments, learning systems, programmes and a school.

How It Fits Together

From understanding learning to putting it into practice

The Institute is not five unrelated things. There is a progression — each step builds on the one before. Follow it:

The Institute's Work

Five areas of work

Each area has its own home on this website. Here is what each one is.

🎓

Academy

The Online Private School

The Institute's UK-based online private school: live teaching from KS1 through A-Level in small classes, taught by subject specialists.

A structured curriculum with every lesson recorded — a real school, not a course platform.

What happens there

Live lessons on a timetable · subject-specialist teachers · small classes · structured work and practice after every lesson.

🧬

Synapse

Interactive practice platform

Synapse is the Institute's interactive learning and practice platform: a place to practise what you're learning through questions, with a Smart Score for every skill.

Your scores show where you're strong and where you're weak — so practice focuses on the areas that need it most.

Assessment

The free Brain Profile Assessment helps you understand how you learn, and gives you a personalised result — including the Learning Archetype that best matches your responses.

The ten Archetypes describe different patterns in how people approach learning — your strengths, challenges and preferred ways of working. It is a starting point for reflection, not a diagnosis.

🎤

Courses

Practical programmes built around specific learning and performance challenges — live workshops, plus recordings:

Memory — strategies for remembering and retrieving information

Focus — practical approaches to attention and sustained learning

Habits — building more effective learning routines

Sleep — the relationship between sleep and learning

Writing — clearer, more effective written work

Courses are individual programmes. The Academy, below, is the full school.

Research

The Institute's research explores how memory, attention, learning science, executive function and neural adaptability actually work.

What happens there

Each area is studied, written up in plain English, and used to shape the tools, courses and teaching below.

It is the scientific foundation everything else here is built on.

The Neurogenetics Academy

The Online Private School

A UK-based online private school built around how learners learn

The Online Private School is part of the Neurogenetics Academy, providing structured UK-based education online for learners across KS1 · KS2 · KS3 · IGCSE · A-Level. The school combines live teaching, structured academic learning, practice and assessment, with the Institute’s wider understanding of how learning works. For the IGCSE stage, the school works with the Pearson Edexcel examination pathway where applicable.

What a school week actually looks like:

STEP 1

Before the lesson

Structured timetable and preparation.

STEP 2

Live lesson

A small live class taught by a subject specialist.

STEP 3

Practice

Structured questions and learning activities.

STEP 4

Feedback

Teachers check understanding and flag what needs work.

STEP 5

Recorded lesson

The lesson stays available to revisit.

STEP 6

Ongoing progress

Structured work, practice and assessment continue.

KS1

Years 1–2

A structured foundation in the core areas of learning, with teaching designed to build strong early academic habits and understanding.

KS2

Years 3–6

A broader and increasingly independent programme building knowledge, confidence, learning skills and preparation for secondary education.

KS3

Years 7–9

A deeper secondary curriculum designed to develop subject knowledge, independent learning and the skills needed for future examination study.

IGCSE

Years 10–11

A structured examination pathway preparing students for IGCSE qualifications, with the school working with the Pearson Edexcel specification where applicable.

A-Level

Years 12–13

Advanced study in the Sciences and Maths, taught in smaller groups with the same structured, recorded approach.

Every learner gets

Not extras — the standard experience:

🎧 Live teaching 🎓 Subject-specialist instruction 🎥 Recorded lessons 📜 Structured curriculum 🧠 Regular practice and assessment 🧬 Access to the wider learning environment 💬 Academic monitoring and communication

Small classes. Small classes allow teachers to know their students, monitor understanding and provide more focused academic support.

Teaching and technology. The school combines live teaching with structured practice, assessment and learning technology. Technology is used to support teaching and learning — not to replace teachers.

The Institute connection. The Online Private School grew from the Neurogenetics Institute’s wider work in learning science, memory, attention and education. Its educational approach is informed by that work, while students learn through a structured academic curriculum delivered by teachers.

Pearson Edexcel IGCSE. For the IGCSE stage, the school works with the Pearson Edexcel examination pathway where applicable.

Why this model?

Small enough to know the learner

Classes are kept small so teachers can follow individual learners more closely.

Structured enough to be a real school

This is not tutoring or a library of recordings. It is structured education — timetable, teaching, practice and assessment.

Connected to the Institute

The school grew from the Institute’s wider work on learning, memory, attention and education.

Why Families Choose Us

What makes this different

Not bigger promises — a different way of teaching. Six things that are simply true here.

👥

Classes capped at 10

Your child is one of ten, not one of thirty. The teacher knows them, sees when they’re stuck, and teaches to them. (8 at A-Level.)

🎓

Specialist teachers, not generalists

Every subject is taught by a subject specialist with 10+ years of teaching experience — not one tutor covering everything.

🎥

Live teaching, always recorded

Real classes at set times with real teachers. Every lesson is recorded, so nothing is lost to illness, travel or a bad day.

🧠

Practice that fits the child

Homework and revision run through Synapse, which tracks each skill and focuses practice on what your child actually needs.

💬

A teacher on WhatsApp

A real person who knows your child, reachable directly — not a ticket system. Replies within one working day.

🔬

Built on 15 years of real work

Since 2011 our methods were developed and used in private schools and colleges in London, UK — the Academy opened after that foundation existed.

The Foundation

Everything begins with research

The Institute's methods, systems, programmes and school all rest on the same foundation: the study of how memory, attention and learning actually work. The research informs everything built on top of it.
